Valentine’s Day and the Single Lady

Just about every Valentine’s Day over the last *cough* number of years, I have been single and unbothered. I’ve always loved February 14th. I love chocolates, cards, flowers, romantic comedies, heart-shaped pizza…you get my drift. Every year, I send Valentine’s Day cards to my family and try to find cute things to give to my roommate and female friends.

Why have I been so content on Valentine’s Day? Well, I love LOVE. Truly. And I love people! When people be out with they bae, I wanna see ’em win! Valentine’s Day has never made me feel bad for being single though there have been times when I would be like, “Dang, I wish I had a boo today, but let’s be great anyway!” It’s only one day, and there are so many other single people in the world that I’ve never felt like I was the “only one”! I know that’s not the case for everyone, and I do desire and pray that you find contentment. On that note, check out The Gift of Singleness by Olivia Kristin.

Ideas for enjoying your singleness on February 14th

  1. Take the day off – listen…I’m doing that this year! I can sleep in and relax. The last couple of weeks have been tough anyway, so I’m looking forward to a self-care day. On that note…
  2. Prioritize self-care. There are bound to be some Groupons or other deals for massages, mani/pedis, and such on this special day (and not just on couples’ massages!). Chile, let’s save these coins and relax!
  3. Watch movies or binge watch your favorite show! Ok so maybe your friends didn’t take the day off with us but we can still do this. I fully intend to actually go to the movies and see a matinee. That new J. Lo movie with Owen Wilson called Marry Me looks soooo cute! I love J. Lo’s movies so I’m already thinking about renewing my AMC Stubs membership so I can get my upgrade on popcorn!
  4. Order a heart-shaped pizza if your heart can take it! Listen, I think that is super adorable! And it’s definitely IG-worthy! Chile, ain’ nobody gotta know you spent the day or evening alone. Shoooo, I love my own company so Imma enjoy the day anyway, ok?! *insert 3 snaps in Z formation*
  5. Read a good book. Oh mercy, I have some books next to my bed right now that belong to the library, and my self-care day is a good time to read at least a few pages.
  6. Hang out with friends! Ok, I remember that some of our friends didn’t take the day off with us but maybe they can hangout tonight? It will probably be easier to do dinner at somebody’s place because the couples gon’ be out on Feb. 14th and not everybody in your party will be cool with seeing everyone babeified or cuddled up. That’s fine. Let’s have a spa night or order food together or something else! It’s Monday anyway so get the week started right! Also, y’all could get together the weekend before and then send each other inspiring texts and funny gifs on the actual day of. Enjoy yo’self!
  7. Make someone’s day. I just love an excuse to make someone else happy! Whether it’s a friend, a crush, ya mama or ya daddy, a sibling, older relative, or the older person who you don’t get to see very often, send them a nice card or have flowers delivered, or take them out or order in and hangout with them! You could even run errands for them or take them to run errands that they don’t get to do…or the two of you can take advantage of the couples’ massage discount…hey, be creative! Whatever you do, both of you will have a memory to last a lifetime!

If you’re in a relationship, you could still do some of these things with your friends and loved ones. That’s my plan this year – to enjoy the whole weekend and the day of with the people I care about. Shucks. I’m thinking about doing some of this stuff the weekend after since the candy will be on sale! Ha!

Whether you gon’ be with Bae or nah on February 14th, what are you going to do with the people you love that day?
