This time of year is absolutely beautiful in Vermont. Covered bridges, horse-drawn carriage rides, hiking, and delicious food are waiting for you there! Early September to late October is the peak of the fall foliage season, but I’d recommend going before mid-October before the temperatures cool off.
I went to Vermont in the Fall of 2020 while travel was still somewhat limited. Vermont had gotten ahead of the covid spikes and was doing contact tracing more than most places I visited in 2020. My best friend and I tried to see as much as we could in this quaint state. Some of our favorite places included:
1. Burlington Waterfront We should have had Ben & Jerry’s ice cream right there but we didn’t! Missed opportunity! It’s the ice cream’s home state!
- I enjoyed the atmosphere walking along the brick streets checking out the shops, listening to music on the streets, and even enjoying a cup of your favorite tea or coffee at one of the coffee shops.
- A true gem near the waterfront was Crow Bookshop, an independent bookstore selling new and used books. I ended up buying a children’s book on the 1963 Birmingham Children’s March called We’ve Got a Job by Cynthia Levinson.
- We also really enjoyed the taking photos in front of some of the murals along the way.
2. Food! Maple whatever-you-want! I personally enjoyed maple ice cream and maple syrup! We really liked Little Gordo’s Creemee Stand. It’s in the campus area (of the University of Vermont I believe – a great place for night walks!) so feel free to check out the campus and walk off some of the ice cream!
3. Covered bridges These were just fun to check out and provided opportunities for photos!
4. Burlington Farmer’s Market This was such a cool weekend treat! We were able to sample local vendors and purchase a few breakfast items while we walked around.
Here are some photos from my trip! If you plan to visit Vermont, or if you’ve already visited, what would you add to the list??
