I love Christmas! Like, LOVE. Spending time at church, giving gifts to classmates and school bus drivers, eating way too many desserts, singing Christmas carols, watching Christmas movies like Rudolph, the Red Nosed Reindeer or Frosty the Snowman or The Christmas Aunt…I love everything except putting up the tree! You can blame that on my mom. HA. She wanted a huge tree…the kind that is about 8 feet tall and has a circumference of what feels like a million inches…you have to put it together branch by branch and each branch is color-coded so that you put it on the correct row. That did it. Now I only like the trees that can fit on your coffee table.
As a kid, my dad loved Christmas so much that he started a tradition in which we would open one gift on Christmas Eve…all because he couldn’t wait until the next day to see the surprised looks on our faces!
I managed to muster up some of the “Christmas spirit” after a friend of mine asked me to host a small Christmas party. They really wanted to help as they also love Christmas. So….we did it!
There was four of us and I made sure to cover the basics:
- Everyone had to wear their face mask.
- I ordered boxed lunches from a catering company called Freedom A La Cart so that people wouldn’t be touching all over the food.
- I bought items from Dollar Tree so that everyone received a Christmas stocking with all of the items they’d need to decorate ornaments and make Gingerbread houses out of graham crackers – yes, graham crackers!
- I made sure that everyone’s stocking included a travel sized bottle of hand sanitizer.
- I invited people who have been taking social-distancing seriously.
- We took lots of photos!
- We even played a game of White Elephant which was super easy to do in a safe way because the main rule in this version was that everyone had to bring a nice gift instead of a gag gift. Soooo…no one stole anyone else’s gift!

Have a safe and merry Christmas!
